What is The M.U.S.I.C Program and what is a class like?

The M.U.S.I.C Program is a program that strives to bring music to all children at an economical, budget-friendly price. M.U.S.I.C stands for Music to Unite, Strengthen and Improve Communities . In a M.U.S.I.C class, an educator leads a group of children through joyful activities, using music and movement and instrument play.

What type of classes are offered?

Currently, we offer the following classes:

• M.U.S.I.C & Me for Toddlers (2-3)
• M.U.S.I.C & Me for Pre-K (3-4)
• M.U.S.I.C Math for Pre-K (4-6)

What is M.U.S.I.C & Me?

The M.U.S.I.C & Me classes are offered in a preschool setting format where a professional music educator visits your child’s preschool center each week, ready to teach a high quality program that is fun and educational.

What goes on in an M.U.S.I.C & Me class?

Here is a list of what you can expect your child’s M.U.S.I.C & Me experience to include:

• Songs and rhymes that develop phonemic awareness and early reading skills
• Tapping, clacking, and ringing rhythm instruments in time with music to improve hand-eye coordination.
• Focused listening activities with music to improve skills to follow directions.
• Instrument play with rhythm sticks and egg shakers to strengthen fine motor skills.
• Developmentally-appropriate songs to develop vocal chords and expressive speech.
• Activities that emphasize storytelling, imaginative play, and sharing.

How many weeks make up a session?

Each session consists of 4 weekly lessons. They are offered September through May.

How long are the weekly sessions?

Each session is approximately 30 – 40 minutes long. Each class can be a little different due the unique nature of the children in the class and the desire to let each child participate fully at his or her own pace.

Are there any take-home activities?

For the 2009-2010 school take-home activities, CD's and instruments are additional items that can be added onto your monthly tuition for an additional cost of $15.00. If you are interested in this, please contact Denise for more information.

How do I sign-up?

If your child is in a preschool, you can check with your Director to see if The M.U.S.I.C program is offered at your center.

One last question – do you accommodate groups?

If you are interested in the studio classes and want to take them with friends, feel free to contact us as we will make every effort to accommodate your group. Certain requirements do apply. Contact us for more info.
